Focusing on Cluj-Napoca, we discover the city and its surroundings on a guided tour. You also have time to explore on your own the Christmas Fair in Cluj-Napoca.
Schedule
1. Day: Arrival in Cluj-Napoca
Transfer to Hotel. Overnight stay in Cluj-Napoca.
2. Day: Turda Saltmines – Rimetea – Colțesti
Drive to Turda, once one of the most important economic centre in this region. Salt, also known as “the white gold”, has been extracted here for 2000 years. We shall visit the Turda salt mine dating back to the 13th century, but heavily modified by the habsburgs in the 18th century. Next, we drive to the Hungarian village of Rimetea in a charming valley at the edge of the Carpathian Mountains. Located in an area rich in iron ore, this small village was once a thriving early industrial city with no less than 16 blacksmiths. During our walkthrough we’ll see the chalk-white houses and the harmonious structure that earned it the title of ‘The most beautiful village in Transylvania’.
Afterwards short hike (max 1,5h) to see the ruins of the Colțesti citadel, giving us an impressive view on the surroundings.
Dinner in a traditional restaurant in Colțesti area. Drive back to Cluj-Napoca. Overnight stay in Cluj-Napoca.
3. Day: Cluj-Napoca City Tour – Traditional Dinner
In this day we are focusing on Cluj-Napoca, the second largest city in Romania. Here, we’ll take part in a city tour during which we’ll find out more about 3 different historical eras: the early German period, the Baroque Hungarian period and the Habsburg period. It includes the Matei Corvin’s House, the St. Michael’s Church and the old Via Luporum street.
Free time to explore the Christmas Fair. Dinner in a traditional restaurant in the village Săvădisla. Drive back to Cluj-Napoca. Overnight stay in Cluj-Napoca.
4. Day: Transfer to Airport
Transfer to airport. Have a safe trip home!
