A 10 day itinerary combining Romania’s top wildlife experiences (ethical bear sanctuary visits and bear watching from professional hides) with the country’s best medieval towns, UNESCO heritage sites and iconic castles. The tour includes a stay at wilderness wildlife observation cabins in the Făgăraș Mountains (Bunea & Comisu).
Bear sightings in the wild depend on weather and animal activity and can never be guaranteed.

Schedule
Day 1: Arrival in Bucharest
Arrival and transfer to the hotel. In the evening we enjoy a restaurant dinner in Bucharest. Accommodation in Bucharest.
Day 2: Bucharest – Peleș Castle – Brașov
We start with a city tour in Bucharest, including the visit to the Palace of Parliament. Next, we drive to Sinaia to visit the beautiful royal summer residence, Peleș Castle. In the afternoon we continue to Brașov, where we enjoy a walking tour of the old town. Dinner and accommodation in Brașov.
Day 3: Brașov – Libearty Bear Sanctuary – Bunea Wildlife Hide
In the morning we visit the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Zărnești, home to over 100 rescued brown bears living in a large forest enclosure.
Afterwards we head towards the Făgăraș Mountains for a premium wilderness experience at the Bunea wildlife hide. Dinner and accommodation at Bunea.
Day 4: Bunea – Comisu Wildlife Hide
After breakfast we travel deeper into the mountains to reach Comisu, a remote wildlife watching location set high above the tree line, offering impressive views of the Făgăraș range. Dinner and accommodation at Comisu.
Day 5: Comisu – Zărnești (Bear Observatory) – Bran
We leave the wilderness cabins and return to the Zărnești area. In the late afternoon/evening we take part in bear watching from professional hides, a quiet and safe way to observe brown bears in their natural habitat. Dinner and accommodation in Bran.
Day 6: Bran Castle – Lázár Castle – Borzont (Bears)
In the morning we visit Bran Castle, famously linked to the Dracula legend and the medieval border history of Transylvania. Then we cross to eastern Transylvania for a stop at Lázár Castle in Lăzarea, a renaissance-era noble residence.
In the evening we arrive in Borzont for bear watching from hides in the forest. Dinner and accommodation in Borzont.
Day 7: Borzont – Viscri – Sighișoara
We drive to Viscri, one of the most charming Saxon villages in Transylvania, known for its fortified church and the house associated with King Charles III. Here we enjoy a traditional lunch. In the afternoon we continue to Sighișoara for a city tour of the UNESCO-listed medieval citadel. Dinner and accommodation in Sighișoara.
Day 8: Sighișoara – Biertan Fortified Church – Sibiu – Sibiel
After breakfast we depart for Biertan to visit the imposing fortified church (UNESCO). Next, we continue to Sibiu for a walking tour through one of Romania’s most elegant historical town centers. In the evening we head to the countryside village of Sibiel. Dinner and accommodation in Sibiel.
Day 9: Sibiel – Transfăgărășan – Curtea de Argeș – Bucharest
We drive across the Făgăraș Mountains on the spectacular Transfăgărășan road, with stops at the main viewpoints along the route. Please note: the alpine section is typically open in summer (roughly July–October, weather permitting). If closed, we use an alternative scenic route to reach Bucharest.

Day 10: Departure
