Full Day Tour: Brașov – Bucharest

We leave Brașov and drive through the mountain pass to Bucharest, the capital city of Romania. During our city tour in Bucharest we visit, among others, the Romanian Athenaeum, the former royal palace, the Patriarchal Cathedral, the Stavropoleos Church, but also Ceaușescu’s megalomaniac legacy, the House of the People. We stroll down Victoriei Boulevard and Lipscani Street. We also see the ruins of the former royal court built by Vlad the Impaler in the 15th century. The controversial ruler of Wallachia is alleged to be the founder of Bucharest. In the evening, we return to Brașov.

Full Day Tour: UNESCO in Transylvania

In the morning, we drive to Viscri on the ‘road of the fortified churches’. Apart from the cities and fortresses there are a lot of Saxon (German) villages that remind us of the past. Our first stop is Viscri, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, a village with beautiful landscapes, a fortified church and the typical white and blue Saxon households. In Sighișoara we admire the most beautiful medieval cityscape in Romania. We visit the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill, the Citadel, the fortified walls and towers of the city and also the birthplace of the Wallachian leader Vlad Dracul, who later became known as Count Dracula in Gothic literature and film. In the evening, we return to Brașov.

Full Day Tour: Sibiu – European Capital of Culture 2007

After breakfast, we visit Sibiu. During our walk through the city center, the German architecture – best illustrated by narrow alleys, old bargain houses, palaces, churches and towers – will take us back to the times of medieval crafts. We also visit the historical center: the Evangelical Church, the Council Tower, the Large and the Small Square, the Liars’ Bridge, the Peasants’ Market etc. Upon our return to Brașov, we visit the Cistercian abbey of Cârța whose ruins alone are very impressive.

Full Day Tour: Fortified Churches in the Bârsa Region

King Andrew II granted the German settlers the Golden Charter in 1244. This charter entitled the colonial Germans to democratic self-government for more than five centuries. We visit Prejmer and Hărman, two of the most remarkable German fortifications in Transylvania. In the evening, we return to Brașov.
